A BRIEF HISTORY

THE EARLLY YEARS

Paul Ackerley formed the llamas in the early '90s out of mud, clay and pixie dust. At first the band members were slightly more concerned about the choice and application of various hair products than about pursuing any musical endeavours. That wore thin pretty soon, though, and in no time they were picking up their instruments and finding their groove.

ADOLLESCENCE

Frequent live shows in the thriving Toronto club scene - powered by an ever-expanding catalogue of fun, funky originals - culminated in the 1994 release of the 'deli llamas' cassette, which landed with a distinct plop to positive reviews and a smattering of radio airplay.

MIDDLLE AGE

The mid-'90s brought a new guitarist and a widening array of live performance opportunities. From sailing regattas to weddings, Canada Day parking lot celebrations to Humane Society fundraisers, the llamafan base grew across time, space and species.

THE BIG RELLEASE

1997's CD release 'Gumball' showcased a more refined llamasound (while still uniquely and unmistakably immature). It garnered praise from both sides of Yonge Street, was played repeatedly on CBC radio, and even hit Top 10 on the national college radio charts.

THE BIG BREAK

'Twas the dawn of a new millennium, and in the absence of a major - or even minor - breakthrough in fame and fortune, the llamas embarked on an exceptionally long break from the band to pursue other projects...
